MORPHOLOGY, DEFORMATION, AND DEFECT STRUCTURES OF TiCr2 IN Ti..Cr ALLOYS

چکیده
The morphologies and defect structures of TiCr2 in several Ti-Cr alloys have been examined by optical metallography, x-ray diffraction, and transmission electron microscopy (TEM), in order to explore the room-temperature deformability of the Laves phase TiCr 2. The morphology of the Laves phase was found to be dependent upon alloy composition and anneating temperature. Samples deformed by compression have also been studied using TEM. Comparisons of microstructures before and after deformation suggest an increase in twin, stacking fault, and dislocation density within the Laves phase, indicating some but not extensive room-temperature deformability.

Intermetallics are receiving increasing attention for applications requiring high-leverage materials possessing potentially high pay-offs such as in gas-turbine engines. While the quasistatic deformation response of a broad range of intermetallics is receiving intense scientific and engineering study increased utilization of intermetallics under dynamic loading requires an understanding of thei...
متن کاملProperties and Nanostructures of Materials Processed by Spd Techniques
Metallic materials usually exhibit higher strength but lower ductility after being plastically deformed by conventional techniques such as rolling, drawing and extrusion. In contrast, nanostructured metals and alloys processed by severe plastic deformation (SPD) have demonstrated both high strength and high ductility. This extraordinary mechanical behavior is attributed to the unique nanostruct...
متن کاملPhase field-finite element approach to study the effects of plasticity on thermal- and stress-induced martensite in shape memory alloys
Numerous experimental studies have shown that evolution of the martensite microstructure in shape memory alloys can lead to plastic deformation. This results in poor functional fatigue in many commercial applications, whereby strain incrementally advances with repeated thermal cycling under stress. This can also affect structural fatigue, whereby repeated cycling initiates and grows fatigue cra...
متن کاملMechanisms-based viscoplasticity: Theoretical approach and experimental validation for steel 304L
We propose a mechanisms-based viscoplasticity approach for metals and alloys. First, we derive a stochastic model for thermally-activated motion of dislocations and, then, introduce power-law flow rules. The overall plastic deformation includes local plastic slip events taken with an appropriate weight assigned to each angle of the plane misorientation from the direction of maximum shear stress...
متن کاملOvality and Bow Defect of Pre-punched Sheets in Roll Forming of Trapezoidal Sections
Roll forming process is used for manufacturing sheet metal parts by successive bending and creating the final shape with gradual deformation. In this article, deformation of a pre-punched sheet due to the roll forming process was studied. Two main defects in the roll forming process are ovality of holes and bow defect. The ovality of the hole is influenced by the process parameters including sh...
